Hi Everyone,
I am pleased to announce that OAHA has launched a new website. For all the upcoming & current information on the OAHA please see our new site at www.ontarioappaloosa.org

The Ontario Appaloosa Horse Association is a recogized ApHC regional club.

New partnership with Liberty Mutual offers auto & home insurance savings to ApHC members

The Appaloosa Horse Club’s (ApHC’s) new Group Savings Plus® partnership with Liberty Mutual, the eighth-largest auto and home insurer in the U.S., may save ApHC members up to 10 percent on auto insurance and 5 percent on their home insurance*. That can be hundreds of dollars back into ApHC members’ pockets. In addition, Liberty Mutual offers customers who have both auto and home policies an attractive added multi-policy discount.

“Who doesn’t love to save money? And forward-thinking associations are enriching their membership benefits with an array of affinity programs,” says Kim Cohen, a Liberty Mutual regional account executive in Highlands Ranch, Colo. “The Appaloosa Horse Club is adding a benefit that is relevant to virtually 100 percent of their members – almost everyone needs insurance for their car and home.”

In addition to discounts, Group Savings Plus® offers ApHC members:

• Convenient payment by automatic checking account deduction or direct billing to your home
• 24-hour toll-free claims service
• 24-hour emergency roadside assistance
• 24-hour homeowner emergency repair service
• The freedom to purchase insurance the way you want: through a personal sales representative at more than 400 offices countrywide, a toll-free telesales center, or online.
• Outstanding customer service from a local office, or from Liberty Mutual’s J.D. Powers and Associates-certified call centers.

“The ApHC is proud to have a company like Liberty Mutual participating in our member benefits program. They have a proven history of providing their customers with quality insurance options and exceptional service,” said Steve Taylor, ApHC CEO. “We look forward to a long and successful relationship with Liberty Mutual to ensure our members’ home and car insurance needs are well-met.”

To find out how much ApHC members can save, call 1-800-524-9400, or visit www.libertymutual.com/lm/appaloosa for an immediate, no-obligation quote. *Discounts are available where state law and regulations allow, and may vary by state.

Question of the week #6-8

We’re looking at a potential business partnership with a company that would offer ApHC members a discount rate for an identity-protection program. Would you be interested?

Since we’re closing in on the deadline for declarations of candidacy from folks interested in becoming a director of the ApHC, I’ve been looking at procedures used by other groups and notice that some equine groups require an endorsement from a regional club as well as individual members? Would that matter to you?

Share your successes. Tell us about a good experience you’ve had with regional club community outreach (partnerships with charitable groups, fund-raising or educational activities, public service projects or unique promotional opportunities).

John Deere Caravan highlights for ApHC members

Greetings everyone,

I hope your year is starting off well. I wanted to send an update around as I’ve received dates of a promotion that John Deere is running across the Eastern half of our country. Last fall I went to a John Deere Equipment training in Florida and they are caravanning that equipment throughout your member areas over the next few months showcasing their new tractor line. They are giving away three tractors with a 1 year lease in a random drawing of attendees. They will also have food and some other giveaways at each of these events and allow time for people to test out the equipment.

This is a great thing to promote to the ApHC members in your territories and we can further help them to know that there are programs like our John Deere program that can help save them money in 2009 through our Appaloosa Members Advantage Program.

Here’s the link to a schedule of upcoming events: www.JohnDeere.com/DriveGreen

Our NTRA Advantage office is working with the majority of the event dates by providing them info on our NTRA & ApHC programs to the dealers for distribution at the events as well as seeking to get the word out to members to let them know about it so they can attend.

The next event will be next week with Southern Tractor in MS. For all those ApHC members that want to attend there are two locations. This is the dealership that we’ve worked with in the past to provide tractors for use at the National Show. They also help with the Dixie Nationals and are very supportive of our Equine John Deere Savings Program with the ApHC and other equine association groups.

February the John Deere Caravan will visit through: MS, TN, AL, & GA
March it will continue on to: NC, VA, KY, OH
April it will finish through: PA, NY, DE

Reasons for belonging, Question of the Week #5

The most recent e-newsletter asks the question: Why do you enjoy being part of the Appaloosa Horse Club? We’d like feedback about the various reasons ApHC members choose to become members. Friendly competition in the show ring? Camaraderie on the trail? Whatever the reason, set it to paper (or pixels) and tell us why the ApHC is your association. The testimonials that best embody the spirit of the Appaloosa association will receive a FREE custom Appaloosa E-mail account and will be published in Appaloosa Journal for the world to read. Submit your testimonial to the ApHC Marketing Department at publicrelations@appaloosa.com or post a comment here.

Question of the week (#2)

Let’s talk about World Show qualifying. We hear from regional clubs that it’s getting tougher to pay for facilities, judges and other expenses related to hosting an ApHC-approved show. We’ve heard the viewpoint expressed that it’s too easy for horses to qualify by going to one or two shows. Some folks say we need the bigger, multi-judged shows in order to attract exhibitor numbers, but at the same time, many regional clubs wonder why we can’t level the playing field and insist that everyone have two-judge shows.

Question: Should the point system for qualifying be adjusted upward, be changed in some other way or left as is?

Question: Should Open and Non-Pro horses/exhibitors be required to earn the same number of points to qualify?

Question: Should Youth exhibitors be required to earn qualifying points for the World Youth Show?

Question: What would you do with the system to make it better for ApHC and the regional clubs?

Okay, I know I keep sneaking extra questions in there, but most of you like to cover several angles at the same time anyway. So, let’s see what happens.
