PROPOSAL TO REPLACE “TERRITORY” AWARDS WITH “GEOGRAPHIC REGION” AWARDS

small web bannerThe ApHC Planning and Review Committee would like your feedback on a possible rule change regarding the High Point Territory Awards. The recommendation is for changes to be made to rules 702, 803, and 903 – changing High Point Territory Awards to High Point Geographic Region Awards. Currently outlined are 19 different “Geographic Regions:”

The Committee believes that changing the awards will benefit the members and therefore the ApHC by making the regions smaller and more user-friendly. It is their hope that changing from Territories to Geographic Regions will encourage members to compete for these awards more readily and with less expense for travel. *The term “Geographic Region” may change, but is currently being used to describe the new area divisions. Also note that geographic regions would only apply to the show/point system, not election territories or other purposes.

I am very against this proposal. The current territory system has been very beneficial for our territory. Our shows are larger than previous years…people are HAULING. I’ve showed for years and this is the first year I’ve shown in a 3 point class. And done it twice this year. Going to 19 regions will completely dilute the meaning of winning a year end award. It’s a lot like giving participant trophies just for showing up. I’ve hauled harder than ever before to win my territory. This is a good thing for regional clubs! Leave the territory system alone and let it grow into something really nice and give out great awards! There’s no way ApHC could afford to give out 19 awards either. Please do not change to this proposal.

I believe this a bad idea. In the SW we really liked the territory aeards this year and we all supported each othet so more and got to know each other. By changing that there is little need to support other clubs. I would like to see it stay the way it is. Why are we changing something that has hardly had a chance to work?!

I think leading the nation is leading the nation. I stopped showing several horses because it was not possible to lead a territory therefore I would have taken them to at least four more shows this year if they didn’t have to lead a territory the regional clubs lost money there.

I guess I don’t understand how this is going to benefit us showing. It is looking like it would increase our travel. What about the Mississippi Valley club. They are Iowa based but have a show in Illinois. We usually show at both but this would discourage us from joining this club and showing both shows.
