Idaho Horse Expo

idahoexpo13The ApHC supports the Idaho Horse Expo each spring with a traditional trade show booth and an Appaloosa on display. This is one of the ways we utilize Appaloosa license plate money, which has to be spent in-state with a focus on youth activities. Part of our funding allows kids to attend the Expo at no charge. I attended the Expo this past weekend as a representative of ApHC and as a vice president of the Idaho Horse Council. We were fortunate to have the help of Erin McBride who provided a classy looking Appaloosa gelding – “Marvin” – who was a true ambassador for the breed. He was particularly cordial to kids and senior citizens. Just guessing, but attendance was approximately 7,000 – 8,000 for the weekend event. Interestingly, the Idaho Horse Council made the decision to use local and regional trainers as clinicians and seminar speakers, rather than paying for a more well-known star. The Expo features a sizable trade show, an extreme cowboy (trail course) “race,” stallion parade and a private treaty sale. This event also provides an opportunity to visit with vendors who might be considered prospective advertisers/partners.
