O.J. Martens

The Appaloosa family has lost another really good one. To simply state that O.J. was a horse trainer and judge seems to be the proverbial tip of the iceberg. He will be missed by many.

Orville J. “OJ” Martens, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was born in Buhler, July 2, 1926, the son of Nick and Elizabeth Froese Martens. He was a graduate of Buhler High School, a lifetime member of Union Valley Bible Church, was an inductee into the Appaloosa Hall of Fame, was given a lifetime achievement award with the Appaloosa Horse Club. OJ was a horse trainer and Appaloosa horse judge.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Union Valley Bible Church, 1916 East 30th Avenue, with Pastor Steve Hodgson officiating. Burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. Monday all at Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Union Valley Bible Church, in care of the mortuary. Visit to leave a remembrance or condolence for OJ’s family.

Another Pioneer of the ApHC family has passed away.
O.J. really contributed to the continued growth of the Appaloosa Horse Club.
