Joyce Nutland

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of a life long member of the Appaloosa Horse Club UK. Joyce Nutland passed away on Wednesday 20 June 2012.

As a founder member and director of the ApHC UK Joyce was instrumental in forming the club in February 2000. Joyce was passionate about the Appaloosa breed and played an active role in running the club in the early years. Her legacy to the Appaloosa world lives on through the progeny of her incredible stallions Amazing Blue and Joe Glow.

Our sincere condolences go to her family and friends at this difficult time.

From The ApHC UK Directors

Probably anyone who has participated in the Chief Joseph Trail Ride in recent years thinks of Joyce as a friend. We will miss her! We also received this tribute from Tim and Janette Keeley:

We met Joyce for the first time in the late 1980s as we shared a common passion for appaloosa horses. Joyce was that glamorous ultra professional person leading around that awesome and nearly as glamorous horse Amazing Blue. Despite Joyce’s enormous knowledge and experience however she turned out to be totally approachable and helpful and provided us with all the help that two novices new to the horse showing world needed – she even lent us her horse for a whole year in 1997! I am sure we have all been at the receiving end of Joyce’s famous two hour phone calls full of help, advice appaloosa bloodlines and hilarious anecdotes.

Joyce’s knowledge and foresight in the Appaloosa and Western riding world has proved legendary. She single handed was the driving force behind the formation of the Appaloosa Horse Club UK in 2000 .She imported in Amazing Blue and Joe Glow the two most influential stallions of recent years, both such Amazing horses that they were both UK and European Champions and both independently selected to appear in Gala performances before her Majesty the Queen, Amazing Blue in 2002 and Joe Glow just a few weeks ago.

Although Joyce withdrew from Appaloosa politics in the last few years this gave her the opportunity to really concentrate on her first love and go back to Appaloosa roots on the Chief Joseph Trail ride in the USA, in her element with hundreds of Appaloosas and Appaloosa enthusiasts.
I am pretty sure that Joyce is at this very moment on a trail ride in the sky, sitting on a fabulous Blue black stallion with a white blanket and spots and chatting and having a joke with Chief Joseph about the finer points of Appaloosa breeding! Happy riding and we will all miss you.

So sorry to hear about Joyce. She was so supportive when I suffered a double bereavement in 1997/8. My thoughts are with Jim and Bertie.
