The 2010 Appaloosa Horse Club election of directors and bylaw changes are upon us. Eligible ApHC members (those of you who have renewed on time) will receive their ballots by United States Postal service this year and the deadline to return ballots to the auditing firm is June 1, 2010.
Beginning in 2011 ApHC will use electronic balloting to create and manage the annual board of directors election and bylaw amendments. ApHC is actively searching for ways to cut costs and provide new online services to benefit our members and electronic balloting accomplishes both goals.
Notices and instructions for the 2011 online voting will be published in the Appaloosa Journal and on the ApHC website at www.appaloosa.com
For more information, contact Kendra Carlson, ApHC Executive Assistant at (208) 882-5578 ext 274 or executiveassistant@appaloosa.com
Pre-entry deadline for the 63rd National Appaloosa Show and 2010 World Championship Appaloosa Youth Show is May 11, 2010. Entries received in the ApHC office on or before this date will processed at pre-entry prices and will appear in the program. Entries received after this date will processed at 1 ½ times the pre-entry fee.
A non-pro or youth exhibitors may enter 9 classes at regular prices & can enter the 10th class for FREE! This option is available to PRE-ENTRIES ONLY! Equipment, cattle and NSBA charges must still be paid on all classes even if these are assessed in the class in which the non-pro or youth exhibitor does not have to pay the entry fee. This is available to non-pro and youth exhibitors regardless of the number of horses they exhibit, and is based solely on the number of classes in which that non-pro or youth exhibitor pre-enters.
Entries for multiple horses must be received together in order to credit the exhibitor for the free class. See the 63rd National Appaloosa Show and 2010 World Championship Appaloosa Youth premium book and entry forms for complete guidelines regarding this option.
In order to request a previously held stall location for the 63rd National Appaloosa Show and 2010 World Championship Appaloosa Youth, stall reservations and full payment must be received in the ApHC office by May 18, 2010. Any reservation submitted after June 1 will be assessed a late fee of 1 ½ times the on-time stall fee.

While attending the Kentucky International Equine Summit this week, I’ve been reminded that bloggers need to be more consistent and more frequent with postings. So, here’s my offering for today. The sessions are being broadcast and recorded by the folks at HorseTV. That’s a good thing, even for those in attendance, as different topics are being presented at the same time in different rooms.
Yesterday’s luncheon speaker was John Long, Chair of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games and CEO of the USEF. Not only are Lexington and the State of Kentucky making basic preparations for this very special event, Long explained that he is also hopeful for a lasting legacy for the Horse Park, the region and the industry.
Today’s topics include multimedia marketing strategies and on-line communications — guess I’d better be there!
The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) Board of Directors has approved a one year pilot program called the Regional Appaloosa Experience Show.
The key components of the program include direct funding support for regional clubs and national point fee waivers for youth exhibitors.
Established and new ApHC Regional Club shows meeting the program criteria may submit an application for approval to participate in this innovative pilot program. Shows approved for Regional Appaloosa Experience Program will receive up to $2,400 in financial support from ApHC, national point fee waiver for all ApHC youth classes, ApHC press release services and electronic promotion of selected shows.
Any show that is approved in this pilot program will offer ApHC-approved and all-breed youth classes for FREE! That means no entry fees for any youth exhibitor to compete in any youth class at the show.
The completed application along with supporting documents must be submitted to the ApHC by May 10, 2010 in order to be considered for the 2010 calendar year. The Regional Appaloosa Experience Grant Application can be downloaded from the ApHC website at www.appaloosa.com by clicking on the Regional Club link or the Show Approval link.
The show must meet all regular show approval requirements (per rule 601 of the 2010 Official Handbook of the Appaloosa Horse Club). In addition to minimum mandatory class requirements for ApHC approval, the show must offer 5 all-breed youth classes (halter, showmanship, western pleasure, English pleasure and games).
Contact Merida McClanahan, ApHC Marketing Director, with any questions about the application process or materials to submit. Email: marketing@appaloosa.com Phone: 208.882.5578 ext. 235
I made it “down” to Nampa for the Idaho Horse Expo this past weekend. Crowds were almost as good as the weather and there was definitely something for every interest level. It’s always entertaining to watch the activity surrounding the private treaty sale, training clinics, ranch horse events and the trade show.
A real crowd pleaser was the Supreme Cowboy Race, which is basically timed, extreme trail. One of our own, Talea Morgan-Metivier, from Chewelah, Washington, competed with the best of them on two great looking Appaloosas. The picture is of Talea and her four-year-old mare Smart Little Cayenne, by Smart Little Sign (also a star of the event), who is by High Sign Nugget. Thanks Talea for showing of with colorful Appaloosas!
Thanks also to George and Lise Jumper, long-time ApHC folks from Emmett, Idaho, who came by to help at the Appaloosa table.
More photos are in the album (see left hand menu).
The National/Youth World Show schedule, preferred hotels and other information is posted on the appaloosa.com site (click on the “show” button).
Premium/Entry books have been mailed. If you don’t receive one soon, be sure to give us a call.
From the hard-working folks in the IT Department:
Greetings All,
We have recently added some new search functions to the Members Only section of the ApHC website.
1. Non-Appaloosa Horse Name Search: It is now possible to search for a Non-Appaloosa horses by name. Only those horses that are listed as a sire or dam on a registered Appaloosa’s pedigree will be included in this search function. If the Non-Appaloosa horse does not have any Appaloosa foals, you will not be able to find it within this search.
This function was created so those members that have Non-Appaloosas could list such things as award history of their Appaloosa production. The only listings available at this time for a Non-Appaloosa are… Production, Race Production History, and Sire/Dam Production Statistics. No other information about the Non-Appaloosa parent will be available.
2. Horse Registration Number Search: This function will allow our members to look up a horse’s information by typing in the registration type and number of a horse. The user can look up Non-Appaloosa’s as well but only if they have produced an Appaloosa foal. All Non-Appaloosa listing functions will be the same as described in the Non-Appaloosa Horse Name Search.
Both of these options can be found on the Members Only home page.
