ApHC Anniversary

aphc-logo.jpgThe Appaloosa Horse Club was formed in 1938, so that makes next year our 70th anniversary as a breed organization. The Journal is planning a special feature for late summer or early fall, but we thought you might like to offer some suggestions about other ways to mark this celebration-worthy milestone. In addition to specific opportunities such as the National and World shows, we’ll work on media releases, website featurettes, and other ways to spotlight our history.

Feel free to send us your comments and suggestions about how we might do more than “observe” our anniversary in 2008.

Why don’t we have a big “birthday party” at the Nationals in Jackson complete with cake and ice cream…. and door prizes… and music.. and balloons for the kids…..????

Just for the record, I’m always in the mood for ice cream and cake.

How about a cross country trail ride starting in the PNW (Moscow maybe) ending in Jackson during the World Show? Something along the lines of passing the Olympic Torch with “legs” that members can sign up for?

I would think it would be nice to make efforts to have George and Iola Hatley present at the 2008 Natonal Show in Jakckson, MS. If ever a person needed to be reconized it is Mr. Appaloosa.
George and Iola are the reason we are celebrating 70 years.

You’re certainly right about George and his role. Thankfully, he and Iola attended our ApHC staff Christmas gathering. We even had George as an after lunch speaker, telling a few stories about early staff get-togethers when the “office” was in his house. Although he’s doing remarkably well, I’m not sure if we could get him to travel, but it’s sure worth a try.

All of the above suggestions sound like fun! But, that leaves a lot of the “WEST” out of the celebration. Most Western State members won’t/can’t attend the National Show due to logistics, and financial restrictions associated with the extended travel.

How about the National Club footing the bill for Cake and Ice Cream to be enjoyed at the Regional Shows? Of course a limit could be set, and credit given to the club for monies spent.
Good PR, and fun for all to enjoy during the Lunch Breaks? It could be announced and touted throughout the show.

The Trail Ride sounds fun too. Count me in!

Have ApHC member write and send in their favorite Appaloosa memories – favorite horses, members, shows and Appaloosa memories in general – with photos – Share some in the journal, but then put together a book that you could either sell to raise funds, or at least put on display in the museum.

George Hatley at Nationals would be wonderful!!! and on a side note, I do think the ap journal should have a large spread on him, his legacy, and too, give him the cover!!!! And let’s make that cover one to be remembered!!!! No one has done more then George! He has kept things together when their was little to work with, and we all need to know that… and recognize him for all his endless work and efforts for the appaloosa horse. It is because of him we enjoy the aphc we have today. I also would love to have cake…lol sounds yummy to me!!! well, see ya’ll at Nationals! we will be there!!!
