Members Share Viewpoints, Ideas

betterworkgroup.jpgMore than 60 ApHC members representing several states and regional clubs gathered in South Windsor, Connecticut, for a “town hall” meeting this past weekend. Hosted by President Eric Beené and Territory VI directors Chuck McWhirter, Ray Burchett, and Laura Lyon, the session focused on more than issues and concerns. Work groups tackled specifics and outlined recommendations, options, and priorities for a stronger Appaloosa Horse Club and a mutually beneficial relationship between ApHC and regional clubs.

Major topics included membership, national and regional shows, judges, and marketing. Breakout groups worked on each general topic and discussed a variety of sub-issues, then reported their conclusions to the full body. For example, the “membership group” wrangled with suggestions for recruitment and retention of members, benefits of membership, sustained communication, and ways to strengthen the “connection” between members and the organization.

    RRRRRRReally wish we could of attended! Any plans on where the next will be and when? Will there be a more comprehensive summary of the meeting in the AJ?

    Not sure about the Journal, but I’ll send you a copy of the summary. Actually, it’s more like a compilation of comments, but it tells you what some of the opinions/recommendations were.

    Hmmm, I wouldn’t mind a copy of the summary, too. Personally, as there seem to be a number of these types of meetings, I think putting something into the AJ about them afterwards is a good idea.

    Maybe it would be a good idea to have “regional” section in the AJ where the various regional activities could be listed, goings-on could be written up, etc.

    One of the things we know we need to do is develop a more useful website section for regional club folks. It would include a comment/discussion area for the exchange of ideas and information. Also, it would have downloadable promotion materials, membership recruitment forms, etc. We also need a better way for regional clubs to update their contact information for the benefit of everyone.

    Thanks for the quick response, Steve. I found the summary to be quite interesting, especially as there does seem to be more than a bit of carry-over of common “problems” for everywhere.
