Indiana & Hoosier Clubs Host Futurities

IndianaOn September 15, 2007, the Indiana Appaloosa Association held it’s 44th Weanling & Yearling Futurity in conjunction with the Hoosier Appaloosa Association Weanling/Yearling Futurity. The Futurities were held at the Johnson County 4-H Grounds in Franklin, Indiana with sunny but cool weather enjoyed by all. There was a lot of color to behold in all the classes.

The IAA gave a Trail of Painted Ponies ‘Horse With No Name’ collectible figurine to the 1st place winner of each weanling & yearling class.

The IAA & HAA also offered a combined club color class & gave awards of $200 thru 4 places & halters to 10 places.

Champion of Champion Weanling honors went to A Rodeo Star (photo) owned by Cecil & Beverly Moss & shown by Joe Scott. The Mosses received a $250 cash award from the club for their win in addition to a bronze trophy sponsored by IAA member, Marylynn France.

This year’s Futurity payouts totaled over $5000. Included in the total were payouts to stallion owners who donated a service to the 2006 IAA Stallion Service Sale.

When a donated stallion service sells at ½ price of the regular fee (minimum of $300), both the stallion & mare owners get free entries into both the open & closed weanling classes. When the resulting weanling places in the closed class, the stallion & mare owners each receive ½ of that foal’s winnings for the class. For stallion owners interested in donating a service for the 2008 breeding season or for more information about the IAA Futurity, go to the club website at or contact Michelle Bowman at or at (260) 597-7407.
