Michael Britton 1989-2007


Michael Britton, age 17 of Peterson, IA died Sat., July 14, 2007 as a result of an auto accident enroute to the Iowa Games to play in the high school 3 on 3 basketball competition.

Mike was a member of the Iowa Appaloosa Youth Association, MRVAA, and the Sioux Valley Appaloosa Club. In 2005 he placed 11th at Youth Worlds in both Nov. Western Pleasure and 13-15 Western Pleasure. In 2006 he finshed in the top ten in Nov. Western Pleasure. He truly loved his horse “Walsh’s Cinnamon”, together they worked hard and rode to these accomplishments. He qualified “Walsh’s Cinnamon” for the Worlds in 2004 in 3 yr old Snaffle Bit Western Pleasure, and in 2005 and 2006 in Junior Western Pleasure. Mike’s last ride was at the 2007 Youth World show in the 16-18 Western Pleasure class on the family’s new horse “A Will To Do”. He won many awards locally at open shows and 4-H on his Appaloosa gaming mare “Everlasting Image”. Mike was raised around horses his entire life and began riding at the age of 4.

He was born Dec. 7, 1989 to Rick and Mary Britton. A very outgoing young man, who participated in many activities along with his horse showing. He attended Sioux Central School in Sioux Rapids, IA where he was to be a senior this fall. Mike was involved in baseball, earned his high school letter in cross country, basketball – the sport he truly loved, band and jazz band where he was the drummer, choir and participated in the Coed Dance team and school plays. He also was the emcee at his high school prom this year. Mike had accomplished many achievements at his young age. His big smile and whimsical love of life will be remembered by us all.

Left to cherish his memory are his father and mother, his younger brother Justin at home, three older sisters Melissa, Terri and Rachel and their families, all his grandparents, many relatives and friends and his horse show family.
