Growing Appaloosas Internationally
One of the board members of the ApHC who is real involved with international outreach efforts is Frank Larrabee. He’s in the corner of this group participating in the International Committee meeting.
I spoke to Frank about international marketing this morning before meetings started up again. He is really glad to see international marketing efforts get jump started and says that growing interest in the breed globally will not only help the ApHC but appaloosa breed associations in other countries as well.
Frank says you have to “get your hands dirty” and by that he means make the effort to go to other countries and participate in their shows and work in the stalls with them. That’s how he says you form lasting and productive relationships.

I must say I agree with Frank L’s statement about “getting your hands dirty” and visiting the countries. Laura Lyon’s visit to New Zealand was a treat and a first–an official visit by an officer of the club with which the Appaloosa Association of New Zealand has been associated for over 30 years. It was a treat to host her for the first leg of her trip, and I know not only my husband and I look forward to her next visit, as well as visits by other ApHC officers, but so do most of the appaloosa breeders and owners who met Laura on her trip.
