Open show is underway

Lots of speed and athletic ability on display during the weekend events at the 60th National Appaloosa Show in Oklahoma City. Cattle classes, trail (okay, not all events involved speed), and stake race. Sunday evening’s awards banquet was pretty special. Hall of Fame inductees included our very own all-star ring steward Jack Junker. It was great to see his family in attendance for the ceremony. Medallion and production award winners were honored along with year-end champions in all the ApHC classes. Approximately 300 people enjoyed the evening of celebration.

Today’s schedule included non-pro halter (watch for photos of a really impressive weanling stallion class with lots of color), open stake race, a bit of pleasure and a bit of reining (get it – a bit of reining?).

We were sad to hear that the floodwaters in Chanute, Kansas, caused big problems for our officialApHC merchandise provider, Tioga Territory. I understand that some inventory was saved, but not all. The building is seriously damaged. Not only was the water high, the structure was slammed by a loose oil storage tank.

We’ve enjoyed the arrival of several international guests. ApHC members and affiliate representatives are here from Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Canada and Australia.
