222-beth-wendel-and-chief.jpgWe hope you noticed that as of January 2006, distance riders can earn a Register of Merit. The ROM will be awarded for completing 250 miles of approved open endurance, open limited distance and open competitive trail rides, separate of combined, consisting of rides 25 miles or longer, over the lifetime of the horse. Only miles completed from 2006 forward will be used to calculate the award. Visit the appaloosa.com website and click on the “programs” menu and the “distance” button to find more information and to download the application form.

Performance Permit Program

Categories: Miscellaneous

Be sure to check the recently added button at the top of Appaloosa.com home page for information about the Performance Permit Program for horses registered with the ApHC in the non-characteristic (N) category. In addition to an explanation of eligibility, you’ll also find a downloadable application form.
Beginning January 1, 2007, the Appaloosa Horse Club will issue Performance Permits to ApHC-registered, non-characteristic (N) Appaloosas. Permits allow non-characteristic Appaloosas, regardless of parentage or age, to show in ApHC-approved and sponsored events as well as race with results counting toward ApHC race awards. Once a permit is issued, it remains in effect for the life of the horse, regardless of ownership changes.

For a one-year introductory period, January 1 through December 31, 2007, eligible Appaloosas may enroll at the applicable weanling fee, regardless of age. These introductory enrollment fees shall expire at the end of 2007 and the applicable fees for yearlings and older horses will apply beginning January 1, 2008.

Aged Horse Special
Prior to applying for Performance Permits, Appaloosas must be ApHC-registered. If you own unregistered, non-characteristic Appaloosas now is the prefect time to register them, as the ApHC Registration Department is running an Aged Horse Special, which offers reduced rates on registration for older Appaloosas.

Blog Policy
Welcome to AppaloosaBlogSpot.com! Our goal is to provide an informal resource for Appaloosa Horse Club news and information. A primary reason for establishing this news channel is to give technically challenged staff people (like me) the opportunity to post from events, meetings and activities without shuffling information and waiting in line to have items posted on the website.

We’ll focus on keeping ApHC members up to date while offering some basic information about the who, what, when, where and why of ApHC activities and programs. You won’t need a password, just an interest in the Appaloosa community.

This is not a free-for-all chat room and it’s not an editorial page (at least not often). Comments, questions, ideas and suggestions are welcome – as long as a few basic guidelines are followed. It should be sufficient to say that if you choose to get personal, assess blame, or otherwise take the negative route to air grievances, your comments will be read, but won’t be posted here. This is a public communications venue, open for anyone in the world to read. Negativity doesn’t put our breed or our association in the kind of light that benefits us all. We reserve the right to edit posts. If you prefer derogatory debates or name-calling, you’ll need to find another outlet.

We hope you enjoy having access to this informal resource for ApHC news and information. It’s just one part of our plan to continually improve our communications with all of you who support the Appaloosa horse.
